Tuesday at the AZS Poznań courts was a double day: the decisive qualifying round in the morning, the first main-draw matches in the afternoon. Sixteen matches, four courts, from ten o’clock until dusk. And one conclusion, repeated by the tournament director after the last ball.
The favourites won. A very high standard. Even the qualifying was probably at the highest level in this tournament’s history. Unfortunately, the young players were no match for their experienced rivals today.

That one sentence describes the four main-draw matches better than any set of results.
Three young players, three defeats
Hugo Rytelewski, an AZS Poznań player with a wild card, opened the main draw on centre court against the defending champion. Fryderyk Lechno-Wasiutyński never gave him a single chance to break the rhythm.

The third of that group, Alan Ważny, ran into an opponent who came to Poznań with a very different record.
Pieczonka returns to singles
Filip Pieczonka is one of Poland’s leading doubles players today. He rarely plays singles. In Poznań he decided to enter — and that is the story of the day.

Campana Lee lost a set and stepped up
The fourth main-draw match was the only one without a Pole — and the only one in which a seed had to go backwards before moving forward.

Michocki got in exactly where he wanted to
Among the eight qualifiers, one name is worth pausing on. Przemysław Michocki is an AZS Poznań player — and the only one of the club’s three players in this year’s draw who did not get a singles wild card.
Borys Zgoła and Hugo Rytelewski entered the main draw by allocation. Michocki had to come through three qualifying rounds. On Tuesday morning he dismissed the fourth seed Peetu Pohjola and opened play on court one. He will therefore stand in the main draw on his own result — and that carries a different weight than a wild card.
In the afternoon he came back to the same court for the doubles, alongside Maciej Matuszczyk. And that was his only defeat of the day.

The main draw moves into full swing. On Wednesday the AZS courts will host the remaining twelve first-round singles matches and the last four first-round doubles matches. Players who were not yet seen on Tuesday will take to the court.
— As for the foreign players, few of them showed themselves today, because we only played four first-round singles matches — the director notes.
Among them the top seed Daniel Michalski, the 2024 Astra Open champion, and the eight qualifiers who earned their place in the draw only on Tuesday.
